Ah, the sweet taste of freedom! He’s been home for a little over a week now, and it feels glorious. Josh is basking in the joys of home-cooked meals (no more mystery meat!), endless cuddles with our furry overlord (aka the dog), and the ability to wear pants without fear of accidental mooning incidents (hospital gowns, am I right?).
But amidst all the domestic bliss, there’s a storm brewing on the horizon: consolidation chemo. Yes, folks, just when we thought we were done with those delightful infusions and their charming side effects, it’s time for round two.
But first, let’s give credit where credit is due. Josh has been an absolute rockstar these past few day. He’s embraced the exercise regimen with the enthusiasm of a hyperactive puppy (who knew hospital stays could inspire such fitness motivation?), and he’s mastered the art of managing his port like a seasoned pro. (Seriously, the man can flush that thing with his eyes closed.)
Now, back to the chemo elephant in the room. Consolidation chemo is like the sequel to the original chemo blockbuster, but with (hopefully) fewer plot twists and a slightly less dramatic ending. It’s all about solidifying the gains we made during induction chemo and wiping out any lingering microscopic villains that might be hiding in the shadows.
So, what can you expect from the “Supporting Josh Through Chemo: The Sequel” tour? Well, it’s a bit of a mixed bag, really. There will be blood transfusions to boost those red blood cells and platelets, a constant vigilance against colds and viruses (we’re talking hand sanitizer galore and enough Lysol to make our house smell like a hospital), and a whole lot of prioritizing rest and relaxation (because chemo fatigue is no joke).
But there will also be laughter, love, and a healthy dose of sarcasm (because that’s how we cope). We’ll be relying on our amazing support system (that’s you guys!), cherishing the good days, and navigating the tough ones with grit and grace (or at least, we’ll try to).
So, mark your calendars, folks. Chemo round two kicks off next Monday, and we’re ready to face it head-on, armed with comfy blankets, an arsenal of bad jokes, and the unwavering belief that Josh can conquer anything.
Thanks for being on this journey with us. Your love and support mean the world.
You’ve got this Josh, you’re a veteran now!
Love,
Dad
